ARACO: The DNA actions from this period have blocked the activity
English Section Publicat de Ovidiu Stefanescu 18 Dec 2014 14:31
If the local construction sector has achieved 15.7 billion EUR in 2008, with approximately 414,000 employees, in recent years the turnover of the industry has stabilized at about 9.5 billion EUR, while the number of employees in the sector was close to 300,000, according to the Romanian Association of Construction Entrepreneurs (ARACO). The difficult situation of the construction industry in Romania has worsened in 2014, given that the market shrank by 15% in the first nine months of this year compared to the same period in 2013 and the outlook indicates a maintaining of the dynamics until the end of the current financial year. According to some studies, last year, out of the top 100 construction contractors in Romania (responsible for 90% of the value of the sector), about 35 are foreign entrepreneurs who achieved 40% of the turnover of the area and nearly 60% of the profit, but with a market capitalization of only 17%. The dynamics of the construction sector in 2014 is significantly lower than that of the previous years, confirming once again the political and economic failure of the industry's potential use. Given the available statistical data, the sector recorded a decline of 15% in the first nine months of this year which further complicates the situation and the prospects of the competitors in this sector. The inability of policy makers to generate sustained investment strategies, consistent with a regional and national relevance amplifies and even exacerbate the effects of this period characterized by an economic and social decline, marked by insolvencies, wild competition and direct political involvement in too many allocations of public contracts. The killing of skills and capabilities of this industry is unacceptable in terms of materializing projects with funding allocated in the 2014-2020 financial period.
